The Human Body - Phonetics


Well now that all of you know the parts of the body, let’s find out how they are pronounced, shall we?

In the face (/feɪs/) we can find several parts:

-           Chin  /tʃɪn/
-           Hair  /hɛəʳ/
-           Eyelash  /ˈaɪlæʃ/
-           Eyebrow  /ˈaɪbraʊ/
-           Forehead   /ˈfɒrɪd/
-           Cheek  /tʃiːk/
-           Lips  /lɪps/

Inside the mouth (/maʊθ/), there are:

-           Tongue  /tʌŋ/
-           Teeth  /tiːθ/
  Tooth (in singular)  /tuːθ/

The hand (/hænd/) is composed of:

-           Wrist  /rɪst/
-           Thumb  /θʌm/
-           Index finger  /ˈɪndeks ˈfɪŋgəʳ/
-           Middle finger  /ˈmɪdl ˈfɪŋgəʳ/
-           Ring finger  /rɪŋ ˈfɪŋgəʳ/
-           Little finger  /ˈlɪtl ˈfɪŋgəʳ/

Next, we have the foot (/fʊt/):

-           Toe  /təʊ/
-           Nail  /neɪl/
-           Heel  /hiːl/

Last, but not least, the rest of the parts in the human body, which are:

-           Neck  /nek/
-           Throat  /θrəʊt/
-           Shoulder  /ˈʃəʊldəʳ/
-           Elbow  /ˈelbəʊ/
-           Nose   /nəʊz/
-           Ear  /ɪəʳ/
-           Ankle  /ˈæŋkl/
-           Knee  /niː/
-           Leg  /leg/
-           Stomach  /ˈstʌmək/
-           Navel  /ˈneɪvəl/
-           Chest  /tʃest/
-           Eye  /aɪ/
